Qelqanqa is an indigenous community of the Andes, located in the valley of the Patacancha river, belonging to the district of Ollantaytambo, province of Urubamba, in Cusco. It is rich in flora and fauna, with 60 species of birds and more than 700 species of plants. In Qelqanqa there is still a direct descendant of the last Incas, which can be corroborated with the current surnames of the locals, such as Sinchi, Huamán, Yupanqui, Quespe, among others.

TOUR DESCRIPTION

Why book this tour? Disconnect from the city and take a break in the nature of Qelqanqa. Live with the local people in the community. Learn the traditions and more about the culture of the Inca heritage and the Quechua language. Taste the local cuisine with natural ingredients.

TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1 Ollantaytambo - Yauricunca pass - QELQANQA community - activities (pachamanca making, handicrafts, offering to mother earth, alpaca festivity). 7:00 - 9:45 pick up from your hotel and transfer to the QELQANQA community. 9:45 - 13:00 We will meet the families. We will have a reception with music and ancestral dance, typical costumes very typical of the place and we will have a tasting of mates with natural products. We will also participate in the preparation of pachamanca, one of the traditional dishes of the community. Demonstration of the weaving process of alpaca wool, dyeing with natural pigments, spinning, elaboration of handicrafts, iconographic description. Sharing lunch (pachamanca) with all-natural local products. 13:00 - 13:30 short break to digest the food. 13:30 - 15:30 we will go for a short walk of 25 minutes to the point where the ceremony to mother earth will take place, the activity will be led by a shaman and the families. 15:30 - 17:00 return to the local houses, exchange of culture with the families (way of living, language, socializing with families). 18:30 - 19:30 share dinner with the families. DAY 2 qelqanqa community - hike to yuraq cocha lagoon - qelqanqa community - ollantaytambo. 7:00 breakfast with the families 8:00 - 12:30 walk to the lagoon will be a walk of about four hours on the way we will observe the flora, fauna and landscapes that this place has. 13:00 lunch with the families 15:00 - 15:45 farewell with the families and return to Ollantaytambo.
